No prior experience is necessary, as the movements and meditations are simple and easy to follow. All that is required is an open heart and a willingness to try something new and adventurous. Our simple and gentle activities restore, rejuvenate, and relax the body, while calming and concentrating the mind.

The day is split into a morning and afternoon session, with an hour break for lunch. Please bring a cushion or pad for meditation. Chairs are provided.

Do any of these practices conflict with the IAM meditation?

There is no conflict. In fact, some people experience that their IAM meditations are deeper after Qigong practice. This is possible because movement practices help clear physical and energetic blockages, while calming and concentrating the mind. To put it another way, Qigong practice can help clear the energy of the day so that you can concentrate and stay present in your sitting practice.

What exactly is Qigong?

Qigong, literally meaning "energy skill," is the ancient art and science of working with the subtle energies of heaven, earth, and your self to achieve greater health, rejuvenation, restoration, relaxation, concentration, balance, stillness of mind and subtle awareness. It includes simple movements that utilize posture, breath, and the intention/focus of the mind to create powerful and exciting changes in the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual bodies.

How can I benefit from Qigong?

A person may experience increased energy, sensation, range of motion, awareness, relaxation, enjoyment, peace and clarity of mind, and reduced pain. Specific Qigong practices may also be prescribed for health issues, such as headaches, insomnia, high blood pressure, etc. Qigong treatments given by a qualified practitioner may also play a role in creating balance, regaining and maintaining health. On a fundamental level, poor health, mental agitation, etc. are all results of something being out of balance. Qigong seeks to restore balance and promote harmony. The vast science of Traditional Chinese Medicine arose from thousands of years of practice and experimentation with Qi, including clinical observation, making it effective and highly refined.

Can I attend an event like this more than once?

Absolutely. The benefits of Qigong are vast, but they can be realized only through sincere, consistent, and correct practice. Because Qigong is best learned through repetition and regular contact with a teacher, it is important to remain exposed to instruction, attend regular practice sessions, as well as maintain a daily practice at home. Attending an event more than once provides the opportunity to refine the movements, ask questions, and practice in the collective field of the teacher and other participants, all of which amplifies the effect.
