What are treatments like? What can I expect?

You will be treated by an intern in the Medical Qigong program. The entire process lasts about one hour, which starts with a 10 minute interview about your health. Next, the intern uses his or her assessment skills to check the state of your health, which may include tongue, pulse, flat palm, and energetic viewing techniques. The treatment that follows is designed to address your specific health conditions, and consists of touch and non-touch modalities to help purge, strengthen, and regulate your physical and energetic body via the meridian points, channels, and organs. After treatment, another 10 minutes is taken to recommend life style changes, as well as prescribe specific Qigong exercises that will aid in regaining and maintaining your health.

How is an internship clinic different from a regular clinic?

An internship clinic is a training ground for students to refine their treatment skills and knowledge in real life situations. In this clinic, treatments occur in a spacious room containing several treatment tables. This arrangement allows the attending doctor(s) to supervise the interns, giving them advice and answering their questions.

Can I have a treatment from one of the attending doctors?

Usually not during clinic hours. They are there to oversee the interns, answer their questions, and make sure the clinic is running smoothly. You may, of course, make an appointment with them at any other time that they are available.

How can I benefit from treatment?

Medical Qigong may be a viable means of treatment for a host of physical, emotional, and energetic disturbances. Used in Asia for thousands of years to meet a majority of healthcare needs, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) looks at the underlying, or root, causes of disease, effectively restoring balance and equilibrium, as well as reducing symptoms. The intern will use advanced assessment skills in combination with a deep understanding of TCM principles to discover patterns of disharmony, and will then choose treatment protocols based on their findings to restore health and wellness. The root causes of disharmony are addressed, as well as the symptoms. To reap the full benefits, a client should be prepared for several treatments, practice the Qigong prescriptions, and adhere to suggested lifestyle changes.
